Financial Education

As a financial education volunteer, you will be discussing basic skills around budgeting, banking, credit and saving. You will help clients to understand how to go about managing their money effectively.

Requirements for Financial Education

You don’t need to have financial experience to carry out the role, but an ability to simplify information so that it is easy for your clients to understand will be a valuable skill to bring to the role.

As a financial education worker you would:

  • Work with individuals and groups to assist with budgeting, borrowing, saving and banking
  • Keep and maintain records
  • Keep yourself up to date on any changes which may affect people
  • Be aware of why people may need help with their finances
  • Assist people to find the best deal, such as fuel supply
  • Help with marketing and publicising sessions
  • Help us evaluate the impact of our work

Personal skills/attributes required for financial education:

  • Understanding of and commitment to the aims and principles of Citizens Advice
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Friendliness and approachability
  • Flexibility and willingness to work as part of a team
  • Ability to empathise and respect different views
